10 Physio life hacks you need to know

Hi guys….If you don’t have time to read this article then I highly recommend our 3 min video. I am sure you will pick up one or two tips, if not more that will make your life easier by doing something very simple. Vote for your best tip at the end

1/ Eye Test – Time and time again this one comes, causing headaches and poor posture. An eye test can lead to early detection of the following glaucoma, diabetes and cataracts.

2/ Bigger Text – Nowadays we all use phones as personal computers, phones were initially designed to make and receive calls – not to read the latest Richard Branson book from your iPhone. Bigger texts on the phone screen will help with this and put less strain on your eyes meaning you won’t have to hold your phone close to your face!

3/ Head Phones – If you are making a call on your phone use a head set, loudspeaker or connect to blue tooth. Holding the phone between your shoulder and ear whilst doing another activity such as typing or driving (which is illegal) can cause repetitive strain on your neck. This can lead to poor posture and another cause for headaches

4/ Steering Wheel – If you share a car with your partner, chances are they won’t adjust the car seat to the way they found it. People often adjust the car seat but often overlook adjusting the steering wheel. Most cars have adjustable steering wheel heights, lowering the height of the wheel can lead to less pressure on your shoulders over a long drive.

5/ Hanging out Laundry – Hanging out clothes is something I despise. It’s even harder if you have a frozen shoulder, impingement of the shoulder or labral tear. Now I know this might sound simple but lowering the clothes line will make things easier by keeping your shoulder below 90 degrees which helps to alleviate shoulder pain.

6/ Reaching overhead – like hanging out cloths reaching to the cupboard to get a bowl or cup can cause pain in your shoulder. Another simple way to get around this is a simple step in the kitchen, click here for an example

7/ Shoe box – Using a shoe box to put your laptop up on whilst using a separate keyboard and mouse can help to reduce the risk of headaches and poor posture as a result of prolonged computer use.

8/ Work Height – We are all designed differently, so there is no one size fits all. This is especially true in the case of work heights in all industry. Make sure your work height is suitable for your body’s needs rather than you suiting the needs of your boss. The same goes if you are getting a new kitchen installed, make sure you take you and your partners height into consideration.

9/ Planning – Planning your task, event, holiday or dinner can lead to a better outcome. People rush into tasks all too often putting their bodies at risk of injury. By simply taking 5 seconds to assess the risk, you can have better outcomes and do the things you love for longer.

10/ Heroitis – Finally don’t be a hero – if you’re in pain – STOP and get some medical advice.
